Tony to stop boats within 100 days, timetable claims

So here is the Abbott timetable. Print it out and wait. Tick off items as they are or are not completed. He is promising to do some things about boats within 100 days. Here they are:

WITHIN TWO MONTHS
   * Expand Nauru refugee processing centre to 2000 places
 WITHIN 100 DAYS (Sept 8 - Dec 16)
    * Establish Operation Sovereign Borders task-force led by three-star military commander
   * Finalise and issue protocols for Operation Relex II, [what a dud name! Sounds like REFLUX!] to turn back asylum seeker boats when safe
   * Start leasing and deploying extra boats to help customs and naval vessels
   * Immigration minister to visit Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nauru and PNG
   * Reintroduce temporary protection visas for refugees already in Australia

Will this stop the boats?
So will the boats be stopped by Christmas? Don't hold your breath. Nowhere in this document are the words STOPPED THE BOATS. But nowhere in this document are there any plans relating to immigration after the first 100 days. So the assumption is the boats will be stopped by then. Let's just keep asking the question and wait. Time will tell.

Don't let Tony claim the credit

Remember the date 8 August 2013. That was the date when the boats began to slow. Tony was not PM then. Keep a careful eye on claims he will make that his policies have stopped the boats, when in fact boat arrivals were beginning to slow before his election win because of the harsh policy introduced by the Rudd Labor government.

So the test for Tony's one big claim will be a harsh one, but it must be fair. Not fair claiming credit for others work, Tony!

Wow, it's exciting! Is his ONE BIG PROMISE promise "plausible," or will it be "busted?" Keep an eye on the horizon. Will the boats stop or not? Wait a minute, no, that's just some driftwood. Keep looking.

Now the questions start

Has Tony Abbott promised too much? He should be able to answer some key questions soon enough. The first question to answer is:

STOPPED THE BOATS YET TONY?

This is the question. Don't hold your breath for the answer.

This is our mission

Tony Abbott, as you are now Prime Minister, here is a question we will ask you on a daily basis.

 Stopped the boats yet Tony?

Depending on your answer, our follow up questions will be very direct:

  • If not, why not?

  • If not today, when?

We think these are fair question to ask and to continue to ask. For three years in opposition we heard you say you would stop the boats. We expect you to keep your word. This site and others will seek to hold you to account.

If you think these are fair questions to ask Tony Abbott PM on a daily basis, join the Facebook page to help maintain the pressure.
